Lyrical Sunday Wk 12 - My Home Town

My Home Town

So familiar to my heart
yet foreign, now, to my eyes
I left a young bride
and will return older, wiser
Unknown growth and pain
across the decade since
I left behind the small town
that was my home
and is now a stranger with the same name

Am I any different?
The changes I have made,
The person I have become,
Will I belong?
Or will I move on again,
realising that one can visit the past
one cannot live there.

  1. So true. I so often pine for my home-town, but in reality I don't know how I'd feel living there. My memories are so entwined with my childhood. I have spent most of my adult years in New Zealand.

Thank you so much for taking part. I always enjoy your poetry.
