that it just was

past tense and a fleeting history

let's pretend I never cried

that I never tore at the scars

or wished on dying stars

that I dreamt instead of hope,

of the sun and sea

not the thunder and dark clouds

I saw in your eyes 

when I spoke too loudly, too thoughtlessly

that I never had to dance in the rain that came and wet my cheeks

dripping over the stinging grazes on my knuckles and chin

Let's just pretend that we met, talked and laughed

that the rest was a bad dream

from too much pizza eaten as friends.

Let's just pretend.
